Scrumpy Jacks Agility Run of the month

SCRUMPY JACKS RUN OF THE MONTH

Number 9

NOVICE JUMPING

A clear jumping round this time!  Although it was a bit tricky I think this was a novice run although it could have been at Intermediate Level - I cannot remember!

Again, please note that this round was at the old UK jump height and the jumps were at 30".

SCRUMPY JACKS RUN OF THE MONTH

Number 8

NOVICE AGILITY

Another Novice Agility run but this time not clear!  This was a class of about 200 and we were running towards the end.  There were very few (single figures) clear rounds as the course was quite complex - more complicated than it looks!  SJ was going quite well and was clear until the very last jump - you can see in the video the judge was about to clap - but, unfortunately, someone opened the door just at the wrong time allowing the sun to shine right into SJ's eyes at the take-off point for the last jump and he obviously could not see.  Again, please note that this round was at the old UK jump height and the jumps were at 30".

SCRUMPY JACKS RUN OF THE MONTH

Number 7

MINI/MAXI PAIRS COMPILATION

This time I have made a compilation of some rounds of the Eukanuba Mini/Maxi Pairs qualifiers.  Scrumpy Jack and myself paired up with Dawn and Dreamer.  Since this time Dawn has gone on to become a world class trainer/handler with both large and small dogs.  The real star of the foursome was, however, Dreamer.  He went on to the highest grades and, as can be seen, his enthusiasm was obvious.  What makes this even more special is that Dreamer actually broke his leg when he was a very young puppy.  The vets, and the specialist hospital in Bristol, did a magnificent job!!  Again, please note that this round was at the old UK jump height and the large jumps were at 30".

SCRUMPY JACKS RUN OF THE MONTH

Number 6

NOVICE AGILITY

Following on from the last Run of the Month which was a jumping round I thought that an agility run would be appropriate this time.  This is a novice agility course and Scrumpy was placed in this class.  Again, please note that this round was at the old UK jump height of 30".

SCRUMPY JACKS RUN OF THE MONTH

Number 5

PEDIGREE TREK PAIRS

This month I have included a pairs jumping round.  This was an Open Class and it was the Pedigree Trek Pairs competition which attracted a large entry, many of which were Advanced handlers and dogs.   Scrumpy and I were fortunate in having Dawn and Shadow as our partners - Dawn is a very experienced advanced handler and Shadow is a Senior dog which was a class higher than Scrumpy at the time.  The course was subtle and tricky, which may not seem so obvious when looking at the video but it did catch many of the very fast dogs out.  We actually finished fifth in this class which for Scrumpy and me was excellent.  Again, please note that this round was at the old UK jump height of 30".

SCRUMPY JACKS RUN OF THE MONTH

Number 4

ABC AGILITY

This is an ABC(Anything But a (Border) Collie)  Agility round.  As can be seen this took place indoors and the noise levels can be quite high.  This was a twisty course (and my start was not as I intended!) but the main problem came for most partnerships at the penultimate spread jump where there were a lot of faults.  Please note that this round was at the old UK jump height of 30".

SCRUMPY JACKS RUN OF THE MONTH

Number 3

NOVICE JUMPING

This is a Novice Jumping run and Scrumpy did get a place rosette for this effort.  The judge for this one is Carl Tyler who holds a special place for us as it was on one of his courses that Scrumpy won out of the Starters Grade.  Please note that this round was at the old UK jump height of 30".

SCRUMPY JACKS RUN OF THE MONTH

Numbers 1 and 2

SUPADOGS NOVICE FINAL

For SJ's initial run of the month I have actually included two runs as a bonus.  These two runs make up the final of the Novice competition at the week long Supadogs event.  There are about 1,000 dogs entered for the Novice competition and qualification for the final is by a points system over a number of rounds.  SJ was clear in all the qualifying rounds and qualified for the final which was made up of the top 30 dogs.  The final consisted of the two rounds shown.  Unfortunately, after going clear in the jumping round, we got five faults in the agility run.  The problem was that I decided to run with SJ on my right at the start and this pulled him away from the correct entrance to the tunnel (if SJ had broken the plane of the tunnel he would have been eliminated).  Had I run with him on my left he would have entered with no problem but I would have then had the problem of getting right across to have him on my left going over the A-Frame for the slalom that followed.  I am still not sure as to whether I would change if I did it again!!  Anyway, in the end we finished in fifteenth place which was not bad out of the original 1,000.  It is rare for SJ to be seen making an error and being fair to him it was totally my fault!  Next months run will be a clear one!  Please note that these rounds were at the old UK jump height of 30".
